Frequently Asked Questions
This FAQ is based on the current behavior of Stock Near Me and on the setup flow inside the app.
What does Stock Near Me do?
Stock Near Me shows in-store availability for a product variant on the product page. It helps shoppers see which store locations have stock before they visit a physical store.
How do I install the app?
Install the app from the Shopify App Store. After installation, open Stock Near Me from Shopify Admin > Apps. The production app is designed to start from the Shopify App Store and Shopify Admin rather than by manually entering a shop domain.
How do I finish setup after installing the app?
- Open the app from Shopify Admin.
- In Step 1, open the theme editor from inside the app.
- Add the Store availability app block to your product template.
- Customize the block's text, colors, or placement if needed.
- Save the theme and return to the app.
- In Step 2, choose which locations should be visible to shoppers.
- In Step 3, set your safety stock so the storefront does not show all available units.
How do I know the block was installed correctly?
If the app detects the theme block in your published theme, it will show a confirmation message in the admin. On the storefront, a successful setup means the product page can show stock per location when the block is opened.
Can I choose which locations appear to shoppers?
Yes. In the app admin, Step 2 lets you choose which Shopify locations are visible. Hidden locations are excluded from the storefront results.
What is safety stock?
Safety stock is a buffer that is deducted from the quantity shown on the storefront. It helps reduce the risk of showing more units than you want shoppers to rely on.
Why can the storefront quantity differ from Shopify Admin?
Displayed quantities can differ for several reasons:
- You configured a safety stock buffer.
- The app only shows locations you marked as visible.
- Inventory can change quickly, so storefront information can lag slightly behind live admin activity.
- The selected product variant may differ from the variant you are reviewing in Shopify Admin.
Does the app work with product variants?
Yes. Stock Near Me requests availability for the currently selected product variant and refreshes when the variant changes on the product page.
What does the app show on the storefront?
The widget can show a location name, a short address, a stock status badge such as In stock, Low stock, or Out of stock, and optionally the unit count.
Can I customize the block appearance and labels?
Yes. The theme app block currently supports settings such as:
- Heading and subtitle
- Button text
- Badge labels and colors
- Note text and note background color
- Font and font size controls
- Low stock threshold
- Whether unit counts are shown
What Shopify permissions does the app need?
The app currently requests access to
read_products, read_inventory,
read_locations, and read_themes. These
permissions are used to fetch the selected variant, inventory
levels, store location details, and theme compatibility
information needed for onboarding and the widget.
Does the app require an Online Store 2.0 theme?
Yes. Stock Near Me requires an Online Store 2.0 theme with a JSON
product template. Vintage themes that rely on
product.liquid aren't supported by the current app
block integration.
Does the app change checkout, orders, or payments?
No. The app's current functionality is focused on storefront stock visibility by location. It does not modify checkout, orders, or payment flows.
How do I get support?
Email support@stock-near-me.com and include your shop domain, the product URL you tested, a short description of the issue, and screenshots if possible.
